Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a medical term on the basis of
renal puncture with the help of microscopy. Under microscopy, we can see how
damage the renal glomerulus is and divide kidney damage into minimal change,
FSGS, MPGN, etc. As for FSGS, Sclerosis means “scarring to the filters of
kidneys, glomeruli”. The word “focal” is added because in FSGS, only some of the
glomeruli become scarred. “Segmental” means that only some sections of the
glomerulus becomes scarred, just parts of them. So patients with Focal Segmental
Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) still have ability of recovering as long as not all
glomeruli become sclerosis. FSGS takes up one sixth among those with nephrotic
syndrome, the four typical of which are a large amount of proteinuria, edema,
hypoalbuminemia and hyperlipidaemia. The is the prognosis.
How to treat FSGS? There is no doubt that stem cell is the most suitable
therapy all around the world. As we mentioned above, in Focal Segmental
Glomerulosclerosis stage, there have been scarred or necrotic renal glomeruli,
which no medicine in the world can solve except stem cell for stem cells are
initial cells which has strong potential of differentiation. After it is into
human body through vein injection, they will transfer into the kidney lesions by
auto-homing function. Stem cells can adjust the immune disorder by repairing the
damaged glomeruli and by generating into new renal intrinsic cells to replace
the scarred ones. In this case, necrotic cells regenerate, which builds up the
renal structure and revives renal function.
Will only stem cell therapy be enough? Definitely not. As we know, kidney
function damage leads to the accumulation of toxins such serum creatinine, urea
acid and blood urea nitrogen. In our Hospital, we mainly use Chinese Medicine to
create a preferred inner environment, which can dissolve the blood stasis,
promote the blood circulation, discharging the toxins, thus laying a foundation
for the differentiation of stem cell. In addition, the active materials in
Chinese Medicine can also repair the damaged intrinsic cells in kidney of
patients with FSGS.
