Stem Cell Transplant for Chronic Kidney Failure

Chronic Kidney Failure is the advanced stage of chronic kidney disease, which simply speaking is relatively serious. What’s the exact relationship between Chronic Kidney Failure and Chronic Kidney Disease? Why should patients in Chronic Kidney Failure stage choose stem cell transplant? Generally speaking, Chronic Kidney Disease can be divided into 4 stages and Chronic Kidney Failure is one stage of Chronic Kidney Disease.
The first stage of Chronic Kidney Disease is called compensation stage of renal insufficiency. In this stage, GRF is more then 50 ml/min. BUN is less than 9 mmol/L. Serum creatinine is less than 178umol/L. Besides primary disease, there is no other particular symptoms, which is because the strong ability of kidney. When some renal glomeruli are damaged and can not function normally, other healthy renal glomeruli will do more work such as filtration to replace those which have been damaged.
The second stage of Chronic Kidney Disease is called discompensation stage of renal insufficiency. In this stage, GRF decreases to 25 to 50 ml/min. BUN is 9 to 20 mmol/L. Serum creatinine is 178 to 445 umol/L. Patients can feel fatigue, slight anemia, and increased urine at night.
The third stage of Chronic Kidney Disease is called early-stage renal failure. In this stage, GRF decreases to less than 25%. BUN is 20 to 28 mmol/L. Serum creatinine is 451 to 707 umol/L. In this stage, patients will suffer from anemia, metabolic acidosis, low calcium, high phosphorus.
The fourth stage of Chronic Kidney Disease is called end-stage of renal failure or uremia stage. In this stage, GRF decreases to less than 10. BUN is more than 28.6 mmol/L. Serum creatinine is more than 707 umol/L.
So from the above mentioned, we can find out all the indexes in different stages and especially the GFR, which can indicate the damage. In renal failure stage, there are both damaged intrinsic cells and necrotic intrinsic cells. In this case, patients with Chronic Kidney Failure can not recover completely unless they receive stem cell transplant. The reasons go as follows.
Stem cells are initial cells with strong self-renewing and multi-differentiation abilities. They are infused into human body through intravenous injection, and then stem cells will transfer into the kidney lesions by auto-homing function. Stem cell can differentiate into cells which can replace the necrotic ones and recover renal function.
Usually before and after the application of Stem Cell Transplant, traditioal Chinese Medicine is used to create a favorable environment by dilating blood vessels, anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulation and degradation of the immune complex.
