Stem Cell Research on the Treatment of Kidney Disease

Stem cell researched attracted more and more patients’ attention who are suffering from kidney disease. Especially in the end stage of kidney disease, there are necrotic cells. To revive renal structure, we should seek for new method which can help regenerate new renal tissues. Many heard that stem cell can help. In all animals, there are cells which have not generate. They are called stem cell or initial cells and have self-renew ability and differentiation potential. In this case, after some cells are damaged or necrotic, stem cell can take place.
In recent years, stem cell research has been applied in kidney disease treatment, which has achieved good effect. The mechanism of stem cell research on kidney disease treatment is as follows:
1. Stem cell has strong ability of differentiation and differentiation ability, after which, a lot of offspring will be generated. As for the kidney, renal intrinsic cells such as those in renal parenchyma can be repaired or even regenerated.
2. Making use of the interaction between cells, stem cells can inhibit the proliferation of T cells and immune reaction, thus rebuilding immune ability. As we mentioned in the previous articles, most kidney diseases are caused by immune problem such as IgA Nephropathy, Lupus Nephritis and Purpura Nephritis.
3. Stem cell is easy to get, separated, cultivated and purified. After generations of proliferation, stem cells still have its characteristics.
4. Low immunogen is also a characteristic of stem cell. Stem cells are in initial condition and can not be distinguished, so there is no immune rejection and blood type match problem.
5. After a long time generation, the biological feature does not change. Stem cell can differentiate into renal intrinsic cells, etc, which can replace those which have been necrotic.
In Xi’an Tongji Hospital, we started stem cell research on cord blood stem cell, cord mesenchymal stem cell, CIK stem cell and DCCIK stem cell and applied it in clinic, which has already given hope to kidney disease patients especially for those who have uremia.
